HOTEL REVIEW: The Modern, Hawaii
Now we headed to the other end of Waikiki to the uber cool and aptly named The Modern Hotel. I discovered this gem after reading a blog post from Paula Joye on The Joye Report where Paula stayed at The Modern for a girl’s trip. When I was reading the post two things jumped out at me…two pools, coconut mojitos and a bookcase that turns into a bar after 5pm – Hogwarts style. It really is the ultimate boutique hotel.
We had studio suite with a view of the adults only pool and main pool (see picture above). Once again, the rooms are very spacious (unlike the hotels in NYC) with all of the amenities you would expect of a luxury hotel. Unlike the Laylow, there wasn’t a welcome package and the coffee wasn’t very tasty.
BUT if you’re truly dedicated to the holiday cause you can basically do an all-day Happy Hour crawl amongst the hotel’s many bars and restaurants. Here's your itinerary: 9am-12pm at The Grove, then head to the Sunset Beach Pool from 3-5pm, next is Ravish from 5-7pm, on to The Study at 6pm-8pm and then back to Ravish from 9pm-11pm, by then you'll be well and truly ready for bed OR to party the night away at Addiction Nightclub.
There are two pools, an adults-only wading pool with floating lie lows and a larger (but not huge) main pool below which is family friendly. Both have bars serving food and drinks with plenty of wait staff so you don't need to move a muscle.
If you’re in need of some exercise the gym is bigger than the LayLow with more machines and the hotel also offers free morning yoga sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The LATHER day spa with an ample section of massage, facial and body services. Unfortunately, we didn't experience any of these because...Australian Dollar. $200AUD for an hour massage was not in the budget this trip.
Overall, we were big fans of The Modern hotel, especially if you're after an upmarket, cool, boutique vibe.
Next - we head to The Sheraton Waikiki!
