A weekend in Charleston, South Carolina

There is no doubt that that Charleston is brimming with that classic southern charm. We recently did a road trip there for the weekend and it did not disappoint. After visiting Savannah, GA (which is considered Charleston's dirty little sister) we had an idea of what to expect but these were far exceeded. Charleston is the perfect weekend getaway for a couple, girls trip or a fun vacation.

And always, the first thing...

After a thorough google search and scan of yelp reviews these are the places that we could find that make a good coffee and breakfast.

Second State Coffee
Harken Cafe
Millers All Day
The Daily
Caviar & Bananas

Charleston is BUZZING with wonderful bars and restaurants, there so many to choose from that you could literally eat 24/7 for the whole weekend (I actually overheard someone on the street say they had just done that). Here are a few that look delicious and have wonderful ratings.

Pogan's Porch
Doar Bros (cocktails)
Halls Chophouse (a favourite with the Southern Charm cast)
Uptown Social
Chez Nous
Rodney Scott BBQ
Butcher & Bee
The Establishment

We stayed at The Mills House and the location was excellent, but it was a little disappointing and definitely not as COVID friendly as The Alida Hotel in Savannah AND there was no fridge in the room which was very strange.

If you're after more high-end stays then The Dewberry, Belmond and Hotel Bennet look just gorgeous.

You could spend the day by yourself just walking around the historic areas of Charleston, the looking at the gorgeous old homes and buildings. Or, if you like to keep to a schedule, then book a walking tour or one of the many cart & horse tours that you see around town. It's always a great way to get your bearings.

Make a stop at the Charleston City Market for food, gifts and other nik-naks and head down for a walk along the waterfront.

There is also ample shopping to be found on King St from luxury houses such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton to smaller boutiques.

A short drive will take you to the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, which is especially great if you have little ones. There's ample space for them to run around, a hedge maze and a petting zoo.

You can also sail away on a Sunset Charter Cruise or check out the many vintage and antique stores in the area.

Oh and insta pic at the famous Rainbow Row is a MUST!
